Backwards

In William Wegman's early video work, "Backwards," we see a man (the artist himself) standing in a sparse, undecorated room. The camera captures him in black and white, his figure framed against a plain wall. He begins to pour milk into a glass. What makes this 23-second video so compelling is the simple, yet disorienting, reversal of the action. The milk appears to defy gravity, drawing itself out of the glass and back into the carton, creating a subtly absurd and humorous effect.
