Venus and Amor

Adriaen van der Werff, a prominent Dutch painter of the Baroque era, created "Venus and Amor" in 1684. This piece exemplifies his refined style, which gained him a European reputation and the favor of powerful patrons like Johann Wilhelm, Elector Palatine, and members of the Medici family. Van der Werff was celebrated for his mythological, devotional, and erotic scenes, and this painting fits squarely within that tradition.
