Born into a prominent military family in 1883, Jean Metzinger initially pursued interests in mathematics and music before dedicating himself to painting. By 1900, he was studying under the academic painter Hippolyte Touront, but quickly gravitated towards contemporary movements. His early works, from 1900 to 1904, show the influence of Neo-Impressionism, followed by periods working in Divisionist and Fauvist styles, which laid the groundwork for his proto-Cubist explorations…
