Born Frans de Vriendt in Antwerp in 1519, Frans Floris hailed from a prominent family of artists, initially renowned as stonemasons. Though he began his artistic journey as a sculptor, like his brothers, he soon shifted his focus to painting. He trained under Lambert Lombard in Liège, a surprising choice given Antwerp's thriving art scene, but perhaps influenced by his brother Cornelis's friendship with Lombard.
