Born in Copenhagen in 1810, Nicolai Wilhelm Marstrand became one of the most celebrated artists of the Danish Golden Age. Though initially uninterested in books, he found his calling in art, studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Art under the renowned Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg from 1826 to 1833.
