Born in Norway in 1851, Peder Severin Krøyer moved to Copenhagen at a young age to live with his foster parents, the Danish zoologist Henrik Nikolai Krøyer and his wife. Showing early artistic talent, he began his art education at nine and completed his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Art by age 19.
