Thomas Anshutz

Born in Kentucky in 1851, Thomas Anshutz grew up in Newport and Wheeling, West Virginia, before moving to Philadelphia to study art. His early instruction at the National Academy of Design and later under Thomas Eakins at the Philadelphia Sketch Club and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts laid the foundation for his naturalistic style.
