Born in Paris in 1885, Robert Delaunay's artistic journey began after a childhood spent with his aunt and uncle. He studied Decorative Arts briefly before dedicating himself to painting at 19, exhibiting six works at the Salon des Indépendants in 1904. His early work was deeply rooted in Neo-impressionism, influenced by the Pont-Aven group, and he formed a close friendship with Jean Metzinger, with whom he shared an exhibition in 1907.
