ABOUT

Born on August 1, 1714, in Penegoes, Montgomeryshire, Richard Wilson began his artistic journey in London in 1729 as a portrait painter under the apprenticeship of Thomas Wright. However, his career took a pivotal turn during his seven years in Italy, from 1750 to 1757. It was there, reportedly on the advice of artist Francesco Zuccarelli, that Wilson shifted his focus to landscape painting, a decision that would cement his legacy.
