John Crome

Born in Norwich in 1768, John Crome's beginnings were humble; he started as an errand boy and then apprenticed as a house, coach, and sign painter. However, his passion for art quickly blossomed. He formed a crucial friendship with fellow apprentice Robert Ladbrooke, and together they embarked on sketching trips around Norwich, copying prints and selling their early works to local printsellers.
