Born in Rotterdam in January 1645, Michiel van Musscher quickly showed a natural talent for drawing. Despite a relatively short formal education, his dedication to practice allowed him to achieve remarkable skill. He studied with several notable artists, including Martinus Saeghmolen in 1660, Abraham van den Tempel in 1661, and Gabriel Metsu in 1665.
