Gabriël Metsu (1629–1667) was a prominent Dutch painter known for his history paintings, still lifes, portraits, and especially his genre works. Born in Leiden to a tapestry worker and painter, Metsu's early life saw him registered among the first members of Leiden's painters' guild in 1648, though he later ceased his subscription.
