Ludwig Knaus

Born in Wiesbaden in 1829, Ludwig Knaus became a prominent German genre painter, part of the younger Düsseldorf school. He began his studies in Düsseldorf from 1845 to 1852 under Sohn and Schadow. His early works, such as "The Gamblers," show the darker, heavier color palette typical of this school.
