ABOUT

Born in Senlis, France, in 1815, Thomas Couture showed early artistic promise, reportedly selling a sketch for a hundred francs as a child. His family moved to Paris when he was 11, where he pursued formal training at the École des Arts et Métiers and later the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts, under the tutelage of Baron Antoine Jean-Gros.
