ABOUT

Born in Breslau, Prussia (now Wrocław, Poland) in 1808, Karl Friedrich Lessing demonstrated an early affinity for nature during his childhood in Wartenberg. Despite his father's initial disapproval, Lessing pursued art, studying at the Bauakademie in Berlin and later the Prussian Academy of Arts. His early success, including the sale of 'Kirchhof mit Leichensteinen und Ruinen im Schnee' in 1825, helped reconcile his father to his chosen path. In 1826, Lessing moved to Düssel…
