Jeremiah Theus

Born in Chur, Switzerland, in 1716, Jeremiah Theus immigrated to the Province of South Carolina with his family at the age of nineteen. By 1740, he had established himself in Charleston, advertising his services as a "Limner" in the South Carolina Gazette, offering portraits, landscapes, and even crests for coaches.
