Born in 1852, Henri Gervex was the son of a piano maker and began his artistic journey early, entering Pierre-Nicolas Brisset's atelier at just 15. After serving in the National Guard, he honed his skills at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts under Alexandre Cabanel, alongside peers like Jean-Louis Forain.
