ABOUT

Born around 1460 in Oudewater, Gerard David rose to prominence as a leading painter in Bruges, a bustling artistic center of the time. While much of his early life remains a 'bare outline,' it's believed he may have spent time in Italy between 1470 and 1480, where he was exposed to the burgeoning Italian Renaissance.
