Dorrit Black

Dorothea Foster Black, known as Dorrit Black, was a pivotal figure in introducing Modernism to Australia. Born in Burnside, Adelaide, in 1891, Black’s artistic journey began with studies in watercolors at the South Australian School of Arts and Crafts, followed by oil painting at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney.
