Born on July 12, 1917, Andrew Newell Wyeth was the youngest of five children to the renowned illustrator N. C. Wyeth and Carolyn Bockius Wyeth. His birth coincided with the 100th anniversary of Henry David Thoreau's birth, a detail his father found particularly exciting.
