ABOUT

Born in Port Washington, Ohio, in 1836, Alexander H. Wyant began his artistic journey painting by the Ohio River. An early encounter with the paintings of George Inness in Cincinnati in 1857 inspired him to seek out Inness in New York City. Wyant's initial works, like "Autumn in New Hampshire" (1874–75), clearly show the influence of the Hudson River School, characterized by its detailed, pastoral narratives of American landscapes.
