ABOUT

Born in London in 1803, Thomas Shotter Boys initially trained as an engraver under George Cooke. However, a pivotal encounter in Paris with the celebrated artist Richard Parkes Bonington inspired Boys to pivot from engraving to painting. While some sources suggest Bonington was his teacher, Boys's contemporary and fellow artist William Callow, who later shared a studio with him, disputed this, indicating a more collegial influence.
