Peter De Wint

Born in Stone, Staffordshire, in 1784, Peter De Wint was the son of an English physician with Dutch roots. His artistic journey began with an apprenticeship to the mezzotinter and portrait painter John Raphael Smith in 1800. It was during this time that he befriended William Hilton, a fellow apprentice, whose sister Harriet he would later marry in 1810.
