Maurycy Gottlieb

Maurycy Gottlieb, born in 1856 in Drohobycz, then part of Austrian Poland, was a remarkably talented Polish-Jewish realist painter of the Romantic period. From a wealthy Orthodox Jewish family, Gottlieb began his artistic journey at a young age, studying in Lemberg before enrolling at the Vienna Fine Arts Academy.
