Louis Gallait

Born in Tournai, Belgium, in 1810, Louis Gallait began his artistic journey studying locally before moving to Antwerp to hone his skills under Mathieu Ignace van Brée. His early talent was recognized when his painting, *Tribute to Caesar*, won a prize at the Ghent Salon in 1832, followed by *Christ Healing the Blind*, which was purchased by public subscription for Tournai Cathedral.
