Lorenzo Monaco

Born Piero di Giovanni, Lorenzo Monaco emerged in Florence around 1370, becoming a pivotal figure in the transition from late Gothic to early Renaissance art. While little is known of his early life, he trained in Florence, influenced by the Giotto tradition and later by artists like Spinello Aretino and Agnolo Gaddi.
