Joseph Highmore

Joseph Highmore, born in London in 1692, initially pursued a legal career at his family's behest, but his passion for art soon took over. He attended drawing academies and anatomy lectures, eventually abandoning law to become a portrait painter. His training at the St Martin's Lane Academy exposed him to contemporary French art, shaping his early style.
