John Wesley Jarvis

Born in England in 1780 or 1781, John Wesley Jarvis, a great-great nephew of Methodist leader John Wesley, moved with his family to Philadelphia in the mid-1780s. There, he began his artistic journey, frequenting the studio of Matthew Pratt and receiving formal instruction as an apprentice to Edward Savage around 1796.
