Joel Meyerowitz

Joel Meyerowitz, a pioneering American photographer, championed color photography in the 1960s and was the only photographer granted unrestricted access to Ground Zero after 9/11.

ABOUT

Born in the Bronx in 1938 to working-class immigrant parents, Joel Meyerowitz initially pursued art, art history, and medical illustration at Ohio State University. His career took a decisive turn in 1962 when, inspired by seeing Robert Frank at work, he left his advertising job to explore the streets of New York City with a 35mm camera.
