Born in Nancy in 1621, Israel Silvestre, often called 'the Younger' to distinguish him from his father, became a master of capturing the world around him. Orphaned at a young age, he found a home and mentorship in Paris with his uncle, Israel Henriet, an etcher and print-seller with connections to prominent artists like Jacques Callot.
