Born in a shtetl in present-day Lithuania in 1860, Isaac Levitan's early life was marked by poverty, yet his talent shone through. He moved to Moscow with his family in 1870 and, despite their financial struggles and the loss of both parents, he secured a scholarship to the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1873.
