Born in Warsaw in 1894, Henryk Stażewski emerged as a pivotal figure in Polish modern art, often called the "father of the Polish avant-garde." His early studies at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1919, initially showed Impressionist influences in figurative watercolors.
