Born in Barletta in 1846, Giuseppe De Nittis emerged as one of the most significant Italian painters of the 19th century. His early life was marked by his father's political outspokenness and his own rebellious spirit, leading to his expulsion from the Reale Instituto di Belle Arti in Naples in 1863.
