ABOUT

Born in Naples in 1598, Gian Lorenzo Bernini was recognized as a prodigy from a young age, with Pope Paul V himself declaring, "This child will be the Michelangelo of his age." His father, Pietro Bernini, a Mannerist sculptor, moved the family to Rome in 1606, where he continued to train his gifted son.
