Frank Auerbach

Born in Berlin in 1931 to Jewish parents, Frank Helmut Auerbach's early life was marked by the rising Nazi persecution. In 1939, at the age of eight, he was sent to Britain, one of six children sponsored by writer Iris Origo, while his parents tragically remained behind and were murdered in Auschwitz in 1942.
