Carl Schuch

Born in Vienna in 1846, Carl Eduard Schuch spent most of his life outside Austria, traveling and living in Germany, Italy, and France. From 1865 to 1867, he studied landscape painting, but his early work also included head studies, which he approached "like still-lifes, tone by tone, without emotion."
