Arnold Boonen

Arnold van Boonen, born in Dordrecht in the Dutch Republic in 1669, began his artistic journey studying under Arnold Verbuis and later Godefried Schalken. Initially, he painted genre scenes, much like Schalken, often depicting subjects illuminated by candlelight. However, his talent for portraiture quickly became evident, leading him to focus almost entirely on this branch of art.
