Born in Dordrecht in 1710, Aert Schouman was a remarkably versatile and industrious artist of the Dutch Republic. At just 15, he apprenticed with Adriaan van der Burg and also learned glass engraving from Frans Greenwood, the inventor of the stipple style, a technique Schouman himself adopted.
