Born in Delhi around 1589, Abu'l Hasan was the son of Aqa Reza Heravi, an artist from Herat, Iran. His father worked for Jahangir even before he became emperor, setting the stage for Abu'l Hasan's own remarkable career. From a young age, Abu'l Hasan's talent was recognized by Emperor Jahangir, who took the young artist under his personal care.
